At 40th overall, the Edmonton Oilers selected Ryan McLeod from the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL.

The second goal by McLeod in this clip is a thing of beauty. A quick snap shot and it’s already behind the goaltender before anyone else knows.

McLeod was ranked somewhere in the mid-to-early 20s by many scouts. Bob McKenzie had him at 22 overall. NHL Scouting had him at 16 among North American skaters.

McLeod was third in scoring for the Steelheads this past season with 70 points. He trailed only Owen Tippett (Florida - 10th overall pick in 2017) and Nicolas Hague (Vegas - 34th overall pick in 2017). McLeod will turn 19 in late September, and it’s a pretty safe bet that he’ll play one more season in Mississauga before coming out West.

This is a good pick for the Oilers.
