The Pittsburgh Penguins will not repeat as champions in 2018. The Washington Capitals have assured that.
With Pittsburgh needing an OT goal to send it to game 7, the Capitals ended it on a goal from Evgeni Kuznetsov scored with five and a half minutes gone in OT.
Braden Holtby stopped 21 of 22 shots for the Capitals. Brooks Orpik had the lone goal for the Penguins, while Alex Chiasson got Washington on the board in the first period. The Capitals will face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning to see who represents the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals.
HOLDIN’ ON
There will be a game 7 between the Winnipeg Jets and the Nashville Predators. The Predators held the Jets to no goals in a 4-0 win in Manitoba last night. Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson each had a pair for the Predators.
Arvidsson got the Predators on the board with a nifty deflection early on that initially was ruled a high stick, but eventually was overturned. The Jets couldn’t solve Pekka Rinne, who nailed a shutout with 34 total saves.
The Jets will travel to Nashville for a series deciding game seven on Thursday. The winner will play the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Championship.
