Yohann Auvitu Won’t Be Back In 2018-19

No immediate plans, but will likely join KHL next season.

Yohann Auvitu’s time in an Oiler sweater was short and sweet.

Playing in just 33 games in Edmonton, he’s left the club and will likely join a KHL club in 2018-19. He finished with nine points (3-6-9) in 2017-18. My favourite Yohann Auvitu moment is how he got to play on the wing for a few games, just like noted former Oiler Philip Larsen. The late Zarley Zalapski did this for a few games with the Montréal Canadiens back in 1997-98 as well. I’m sure I’m forgetting someone along the way.

Where was I? Oh yeah, Auvitu. Right.

A couple of days ago, it was Iiro Pakarinen jumping ship. Yesterday it was Anton Slepyshev, today it was Auvitu shipping out. Auvitu’s departure doesn’t change the shape of the team very much (he was a lot of fun when he wasn’t in his own end), but it was nice having a 6/7 option that had a flexible cap hit of 700K.

We’ve got a ways to go until July 1st, but this week has left the Oilers with three spots that will need to be replaced before October.
