The Washington Capitals will force a game 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday after shutting the Lightning out in game six.
Faced with elimination, the Capitals pushed back in game six to shut out Tampa by a 3-0 score. T.J. Oshie would score twice for the Capitals, while Braden Holtby turned aside every one of Tampa’s 24 shots for the shutout.
Washington got a huge breath of fresh air with this win. After going up 2-0 in the series, they dropped the next three straight. Ominous clouds of playoffs past began to bubble up after Tampa Bay made it 3-2 in the series, but the Capitals are pushing it to a seventh game on Wednesday.
The winner will play the Vegas Golden Knights for the Stanley Cup beginning on Monday, May 28th. Vegas is waiting for the winners of this series after defeating Winnipeg in five games.
Is this the year that Washington finally puts the demons to bed?
