Oilers sign Stuart Skinner to Entry Level Contract

The Oilers have signed their best Goaltending Prospect to a 3-year Entry Level contract.

Skinner had a great season posting a 0.914 sv% after being traded from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, and followed that up with a phenomenal playoff showing. He’s sported a 0.932% on his was to the Memorial cup tournament with the Swift Current Broncos.

Originally picked 78th overall in the NHL draft last year, Stuart is looking like a real steal. I’m not entirely convinced that he’ll be able to translate this success to the AHL next year, but he’s also a goalie so who the hell knows?

Given that he doesn’t turn 20 until September, his Entry Level contract is subject to slide one year if he stays in Junior.

Overall, it’s nice to see the Oilers didn’t drag their feet on this one. They just did what needed to be done, and now we have an actual goalie prospect.

EDIT: Capfriendly does not have his contract listed as a slide candidate, meaning his ELC starts next year regardless of where he plays. I’d take their work over mine while I look into the details.
