The Washington Capitals are halfway to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Lightning would end the first period with a 2-1 lead, but the Capitals would score five unanswered goals en route to a 6-2 victory. Six different Capitals would score a goal. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Lars Eller would each have three points (1-2-3), while goaltender Braden Holtby would turn aside 33 of 35 total shots from the Lightning. Tampa Bay will now face a critical game 3 on the road.
JET BOY, JET GIRL
The Winnipeg Jets opened their series with a 4-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night. The Jets had a 3-0 lead just eight minutes into the first period getting goals from Dustin Byfuglien, Patrick Laine and Joel Armia. The Jets held the Golden Knights to just 21 shots. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 19 of 21 to help pick up the win for the Jets. The Jets will have a chance to take a commanding lead in the series as game two will be played tonight in Winnipeg.
