Significant change to format of Young Stars Classic this September in Penticton. While Canucks/Jets prospects will be featured, the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have pulled out. Instead, the University of Alberta/University of BC men's teams will play each other twice.

Well this is just outrageous.
Edmonton and Calgary will not participate in this year’s YoungStars Tournament. The yearly tournament held in Penticton is a chance to see all of Edmonton’s young prospects (and a few who are trying out) in a round-robin style tournament. Through the years, Edmonton’s young stars have faced off against Vancouver’s young stars, Winnipeg’s young stars, and San Jose’s young stars have made it there a time or two. It was also a great time to break up the lack of hockey that an Oilers fan usually goes through from the beginning of April until the first or second week of September.
Fans of Alberta hockey aren’t left completely in the dark, as U of A and U of BC will face each other twice during the tournament.
BUT WHAT NOW FOR THE YOUNGSTARS?
Will there be another tournament for Edmonton to participate in? Maybe against the Flames? Probably. Maybe. Okay, I don’t know. Probably maybe is my guess. If not, it’s a shame. I always enjoy watching the future of the club go head-to-head against other Pacific Division clubs.
We wait.
