I’d much rather be watching the Oilers take on the Sharks in round two, but that’s not happening this year. What’s second best? Maybe it’s the Oilers taking on the Golden Knights?

Okay, after that? The Oilers taking on the Flames. But seriously.

Connor McDavid will captain Team Canada at the IIHF World Championsihps which begin later this week in Denmark. Ryan O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn will serve as alternates. McDavid was a member of the 2016 team that won gold in Moscow. With the Oilers out of the playoffs this season, he’ll get the chance to help put Canada over the top once again.

Here’s a schedule for Team Canada, who are members of the eight-team Group B.

  • Friday, 4 May: United States vs. Canada
  • Sunday, 6 May: Canada vs. South Korea
  • Monday, 7 May: Canada vs. Denmark
  • Thursday, 10 May: Norway vs. Canada
  • Saturday, 12 May: Finland vs. Canada
  • Monday, 14 May: Latvia vs. Canada
  • Wednesday, 16 May: Canada vs. Germany

“Group A” consists of Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus, Slovakia, France and Austria)

The top four teams from each group will move on to the elimination round on May 17th. Semis will be played on May 19th, while the gold (and bronze) medal games take place on the 20th of May.
