2018 NHL Draft Lottery Open Thread

Don’t count the Oilers out of a draft lottery.

Can you believe it’s been since 2015 that the Edmonton Oilers picked first in an Entry Draft? It seems almost forever since the Oilers selected Connor McDavid first overall.

Remember the night when the Oilers won that lottery? Oh, the buildup. The suspense! And then finally, the eruption of insanity that followed when Bill Daly turned the golden card around?

The Oilers hold just a 5% chance of winning tonight’s lottery. That might not seem like an awful lot. I don’t know about you, but I’m not about to go counting the Oilers out of the draft lottery until it’s over.

This year’s draft lottery is a little bit different than last year’s, at least in presentation. The first twelve picks will be selected in a half-hour pregame show before Sharks / Golden Knights. The game will begin at 8 ET / 6 MT. The top three selections will be unveiled during the second intermission of that game.

The Oilers could win the draft lottery outright. They could also finish second, third, or anywhere between ninth (their current spot) and twelfth. Buffalo, Arizona and Ottawa are the three teams with the best odds to win.
