It’s Trade Deadline Day 2018

Follow along for all the day’s moves.

NHL: Boston Bruins at Edmonton Oilers
On to greener pastures?
Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, today is February 26th. It’s trade deadline day in the NHL, and we’re recapping the day’s moves beginning at 7 AM local time. What will Chiarelli get in return for Patrick Maroon? Will Michael Cammalleri have any takers? Does Ryan Strome make it through the day as an Oiler? Please don’t trade Klefbom. Or Nuge.

Here we go.

It’s 7:04 AM. All quiet. Need coffee.

7:35 AM: nervous whistling

7:43 AM: The Ottawa Senators have sent Ian Cole to the Blue Jackets. A third round pick in 2020 and prospect Nick Moutrey. Jackets get an NHL player on defence while the Ottawa Senators try to sell everything that isn’t bolted down.

8:22 AM: more coffee

9:58 AM: Nothing but a few rumours. A nasty one involving Klefbom to Boston, maybe Jack Johnson headed to Anaheim?

10:04 AM: Philadelphia claims defenceman Johnny Oduya off the waiver wicket

10:08 AM: The Calgary Flames have claimed Chris Stewart off the waiver wicket.

10:20: The Predators send a first and a fourth round pick in 2018 along with forward Victor Ejdsell to the Blackhawks for Ryan Hartman and a fifth round pick in 2018. Hartman has 25 points in 57 games with the Blackhawks, Ejdsell is currently in Sweden with Jonkoping.

10:27 AM: The Winnipeg Jets have acquired Paul Stastny from St. Louis for a 2018 1st round draft choice, a conditional 2020 fourth round draft choice, and Eric Foley. Jets get a star player in Stastny, the Blues probably aren't done yet.

10:27 AM: The Vegas Golden Knights acquire defenceman Philip Holm from the Vancouver Canucks for Brendan Leipsic. Holm has spent all but one game with Utica this season. 23 year old Leipsic has played 44 games this season for Vegas, scoring 13 points.

11:58 AM: The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded Jordan Maletta for Arizona’s Ryan Kujawinski. This Pis the big one of the day. Obviously.

The Sabres have traded Evander Kane to San Jose for a conditional first round pick in 2019, a conditional fourth from the same year, and forward Dan O’Regan. That’s...underwhelming for Buffalo. O’Regan is a 24 year old forward with 5 career points, though he’s got some nice AHL numbers with the Barracuda (25 points in 31 games)

The Islanders have traded Jason Chimera to the Ducks for forward Chris Wager. Shrug.

TEN MINUTES TO GO

The Canucks have traded Thomas Vanek to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Tyler Motte and Jussi Jokinen. Can’t go wrong with Vanek if you want a little extra scoring, but this is a head scratcher for the Canucks.

It’s 1 PM / 3 Eastern.

Per Ryan Rishaug, Pat Maroon has been dealt to the Devils for a third round pick and a prospect. The prospect is J.D. Dudek. Dudek has 17 points this year in 33 games for Boston College. It's a crapshoot.

Thomas Tatar has been dealt to the Golden Knights by Detroit for Vegas’ 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks this year. Tatar has 28 points for Detroit so far, and that seems like an awful lot in return.
