Today’s been a heck of a day for news. First, the Oilers acquire Alex Petrovic. They then decide that it’s probably in their best interest to ship Drake Caggiula and Jason Garrison to the Chicago Blackhawks for the guy who broke Connor McDavid’s collarbone a few years back.
In a move that’s dripping with considerably less controversy, the Oilers have called up Joseph Gambardella from the Condors. I think I’m going to start calling him Joe.
That is some hideous font on those Bakersfield sweaters. Yeesh.
The 25-year old from Staten Island, NY has 21 points (12-9-21) in 28 games with the Condors this year. This is Gambardella’s make-it-or-break-it year in the AHL, so it’s nice to see him get rewarded with a call up.
The Oilers have lost two forwards in two days in Valentin Zykov and Drake Caggiula. Caggiula was a regular, so if Ryan Spooner gets scratched like he did versus San Jose on Saturday, Gambardella’s odds look good to get in.
The Oilers take on the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Place on Monday night as they look to avoid six straight losses.
