Oscar Klefbom To Miss 6-8 Weeks

Finger surgery will keep Oilers’ best defenceman on shelf until at least February

That’s news that no one really wanted to hear.

Oscar Klefbom has missed the last two games for the Oilers after he injured his hand while blocking a puck. He’s going to miss quite a few more. Finger surgery is going to keep him out of the Oilers’ lineup for at least the next six weeks. If I’m using my calendar properly, that’s going to keep him out at least until February.

The Oilers have been mixing up the line blender since his absence. Darnell Nurse is pulling in Klefbom’s minutes (and a little more) over the past two games. He’ll likely be asked to do all he can until Andrej Sekera can come back, February, or the wheels rock off. With Nurse on the top line with Adam Larsson, the second line has recently featured Kevin Gravel. Jason Garrison filled in at 3LD last game.

The D lines will likely shake up a fair bit before Klefbom returns. Here’s hoping the goaltending can hold solid through it all.
