The Oilers make yet another roster move, this time claiming Russian RW Valentin Zykov off of waivers.
The #LetsGoOilers claim Zykov off Waivers per @FriedgeHNIC. Another roster move needed for 23.

Zykov is a 23 RW in Yr 1 of 2 $675K Cap Hit.
In 13 games he has 3 Assists, on ice for 50% 5v5 GF, 53% xGF, 63% Corsi. He also has 2 Goals in 6 AHL games. https://t.co/mQAExr77AJ pic.twitter.com/zZdtQ33vSW
The 23-year-old has put up very good numbers in the AHL, but has only managed 3 assists in 13 games in the NHL this year.
It will be interesting to see where he slots into the Oilers lineup, and if he’s to be used in the top-6 or lower lines.
One thing to note, is that the Oilers now need to move a player off of the NHL roster in order to be compliant. Either there’s an injury we don’t know about and someone will be placed on IR, or more likely, Ty Rattie is getting waived very quickly.
As for the move itself, I’m not a big fan. If he proves to be an impact player and moves someone who isn’t down the lineup I’ll be happy, but I can’t help but think it’s going to cost one of the AHL kids a call up. And that’s disappointing.
Update:
With our waiver acquisition of forward Valentin Zykov from Carolina, the #Oilers have also assigned forward Patrick Russell to the @Condors.

Patrick Russell has been sent down to the Bakersfield Condors.
