The Oilers have sent Ryan Strome to the Rangers for Ryan Spooner
NYR announce they’ve traded for Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) November 16, 2018
Ryan Strome got off to a bit of a rough start this year after signing his new contract. He put up just two points in 18 games, earning the name Offense Killer from your’s truly.
Ryan Spooner is a 26-year-old Center who so far this year also has only two points. However, his past production looks a little but more promising than Ryan Strome’s.
I don’t know a lot about Spooner, so this is going to be a bit of an evaluation period for the first few games. Interestingly, he has a Four Million Dollar cap hit through next season, it will be interesting to see how that affects the Oilers who are already over the cap.
Update:
NYR retain $900K of Spooner’s salary.

Looks like an equal cap hit to Strome now.
As far as One-for-One deals go, this looks a lot more promising than the others.
