IT’S GETTING KIND OF HEAVY

The Oilers are now 0-2 on the season after dropping a 4-1 matchup to the Bruins on Thursday night. Connor McDavid scored the lone Oilers goal to put the Oilers up 1-0, but it was almost all Boston after that. Oilers are having trouble putting the puck in the net through two, and that’s no good. A matinee contest against the New York Rangers hopes to prevent the Oilers from starting a woeful 0-3 on the season. Can the Oilers play three solid periods for a win?

This is what the Oilers were practicing with at MSG on Friday. If this is what Todd McLellan is going for this afternoon, I’m not sure Jujhar Khaira is the guy who should be getting a seat.

THREE THINGS TO WATCH FOR

  • The Oilers have to come out with fire. The Rangers are suspect on defence, and the Oilers have got to be playing for a win. Things don’t get easier for the Oilers after today as they cruise into Winnipeg next. They can’t be 0-3 on their way to Manitoba.
  • Plain and simple, the Oilers need more goals, and it would be helpful if they came from players who don’t wear number 97. Connor McDavid has been in on all three of Edmonton’s goals this season, which is great. The Oilers are going to need more goals from more places.
  • Cam Talbot looks for his first win of the season. Through two games, he’s got a .877 SV%.

The Oilers have to win this game today. I can’t imagine the noise if they don’t.
