Friday Morning Hot Links: Trade Talk

Anaheim Ducks v Edmonton Oilers

Hello everyone, the weekend is finally here. I only have two links for today but they’re the kind that promote discussion, so they should suffice.

Yesterday during out shootout win, the Oilers made a trade with the Canadiens. The Oilers acquired Al Montoya in exchange for a conditional 5th round pick. It’s being reported as a conditional 4th, but because the conditions are that Montoya has to play seven games for it to be a 4th, I’m pretty convinced that it’s going to be a 5th.

This likely spells the end of the Laurent Brossoit era. He’ll be placed on waivers today and then it gets interesting. Three days ago I wrote about how the the Oilers need to stop sending NHL rejects to the AHL because it hinders development. With a goalie, this is an even more serious concern. There’s only so much net to go around, why use it on a guy who isn’t part of the future? I’m hoping they loan Brossoit to a European team or just ask him not to report, but I’m not going to hold my breath. Anyway, here’s the trade. (NHL.com)

Yesterday Darren Dreger went on the radio and dropped a bombshell. He says the Oilers and Senators had a deal almost finalized involving Taylor Hall and Cody Ceci. I’m not going to call this #fakenews or anything like that, but I am extremely skeptical of it. This is the topic most people wrote about yesterday, so if you want to see a GM water-carrying or GM bashing (there’s nothing in between) you can find that all over the internet. This is the transcript. (Fan Rag Sports)

That’s all for now. We have two afternoon games this weekend, we’ll have you covered.
