Patrick Maroon Suspended Two Games For Hit On LA Kings’ Drew Doughty

Maroon served five minutes and a game misconduct for headshot to Drew Doughty

Los Angeles Kings v Edmonton Oilers
Pat Maroon will have the next two games off

If you’re not going to score a goal, make something happen out there. Except, well, maybe what Patrick Maroon did to Drew Doughty last night. Avoid that, and certainly avoid getting caught while doing that.

Yeesh.

Maroon catches Doughty up high on a play where Doughty doesn’t touch the puck and has about one-tenth of a second to react. Play stops and Maroon is forced to deal with Derek Forbort at the conclusion of the hit, where he then receives a game misconduct for the hit on Doughty.

The Oilers would then go on to yield a somewhat impressive three goals on the ensuing five minute penalty kill. Have we talked about the Oilers penalty kill at home? It’s not good. Some other time? Okay.

“INTERFERENCE”

The Oilers will lose Patrick Maroon for two games for this hit. For a first time offender, it seems like a reasonable suspension. The NHL’s wheel of justice is a fickle machine but I think most of us will agree that it was a reckless, ugly hit that fortunately didn’t injure Doughty on the play.

It’s a perfectly reasonable suspension. But because I like to be told I’m wrong, we’ll poll it.
