Meet the Pandas : Part 2

Profiles of the 2017-2018 University of Alberta Pandas Hockey Team

The University of Alberta Pandas are the highest level of women’s hockey in Edmonton. Added to that is the fact the team holds a record 8 National Championships and 12 conference titles, making it one of the most successful women’s hockey programs in U Sports.

This year the Pandas are a mix of new faces and returning players and a little bit of information about 10 of these amazing ladies is found in the profiles below.

Name: Kiara MacHry

Position: Defense

Height: 5’3”

Eligibility: 1st Year

Jersey Number: 15

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? If I didn’t play hockey I’d definitely be on a beach somewhere.

Cats, dogs, or another animal? Dogs, for sure.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Biggest hockey accomplishment is placing second in the JWHL.

What is your favourite chocolate bar? I love Aero.

What is your favourite class? I like science type classes.

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? TV

Name: Hannah Olenyk

Position: Forward

Height: 5’4”

Eligibility: 4th Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? Motorcross

Cats, dogs, or another animal? Dogs.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Winning Nationals last season

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Cookies and Cream

What is your favourite class? None

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Sleeping or listening to music

Name: Regan Wright

Position: Forward

Height: 5’8”

Eligibility: 3rd Year

Jersey Number: 19

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? If I didn’t play hockey I’d run track.

Cats, dogs, or another animal? Self-proclaimed crazy cat lady for sure.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Winning the U Sports championship last season.

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Dark chocolate. Not too picky.

What is your favourite class? My favourite class is KIN 306 biomechanics.

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? I’m a huge believer in trying to study but ultimately napping.

Name: Lisa Lloyd

Position: Forward

Height: 5’6”

Eligibility: 2nd Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? Probably playing some other sport.

Cats, dogs, or another animal? I like fish because they are low maintenance.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Winning Nationals last season.

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Mars Bars

What is your favourite class? I like English.

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Sleeping and listening to music.

Name: Abby Krzyzaniak

Position: Defense

Height: 5’10”

Eligibility: 1st Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? I would play another sport, like softball or track and field.

Cats, dogs, or another animal? I love dogs!

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Playing at the U18 Nationals tournament for Team Manitoba

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Twix or Kit Kat

What is your favourite class? Kin 101, also known as Human Physiology

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Listen to music and hang out with the team.

Name: Chelsea Dearsley

Position: Forward

Height: 5’5”

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? I would probably play another sport, or have a lot of free time.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Winning Nationals last year.

What is your favourite class? Pathophysiology.

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Studying in my nap breaks.

Name: Kalista Senger

Position: Defense

Height: 5’7”

Eligibility: 1st Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? I would play volleyball or another sport, maybe even be a narp.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Mac’s tourney champs, 5 time consecutive provincial champ

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Solid milk chocolate bars.

What is your favourite class? Stats, I nap

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Jam to throwbacks.

Name: Kirsten Chamberlin

Position: Goalie

Height: 5’5”

Eligibility: 2nd Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? If I didn’t play hockey I would probably be playing soccer.

Cats, dogs, or another animal? Dogs, I have one named Gordie and he’s a good boy.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Winning Nationals last year.

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Oh Henry.

What is your favourite class? So far, none to date.

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Nap or studying or singing as loud as I can. Whatever seems most appropriate.

Name: Dayna Owen

Position: Goalie

Height: 5’8”

Eligibility: 3rd Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? If I didn’t play hockey I would be living in New York City.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? U-Sport National Champions 2017

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Crispy Crunch or KitKat Chunky

What is your favourite class? Economics

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Either watch movies on my laptop or chat with the girls sitting in the seats around me.

Name: Sydney McCluskey

Position: Goalie

Height: 5’7”

Eligibility: 1st Year

If you didn’t play hockey, what would you do? If I didn’t play hockey I would be the biggest nerd. Wait I still am the biggest nerd. I would probably be playing rugby or golf.

Cats, dogs, or another animal? No animals.

What is your biggest hockey accomplishment to date? Being a Panda.

What is your favourite chocolate bar? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

What is your favourite class? German

What is your favourite way to pass time on road trips? Get all my homework done.
