Friday Morning Hot Links: Bad Things Happened

Anaheim Ducks v Edmonton Oilers - Game Four Photo by Codie McLachlan/Getty Images

Not a great start to the morning everyone, these links are more bad than good.

In our first injury of the season — beyond Andrei Sekera — Anton Slepyshev will be out for at least training camp. There’s an obvious solution to the right wing problem... Jeff Chapman covers it. (Copper&Blue)

That is a segue into the next aspect. Jesse Puljujarvi is not going to the Penticton tournament because the Oilers feel he should be focused on pro camp only. Given what we just learned, it makes sense. (Edmonton Journal)

Tyler Benson will also miss the Rookie Tournament. He’s had injury problems for a long time and this is the year it needs to stop. (Edmonton Journal)

Just to kick me a little more while I’m down, the Hockey Gods have decided to have Cody Franson sign a professional tryout with the Chicago Blackhawks. It sounded like the Oilers were close to something with him but that doesn’t appear to have worked out. He really could have helped out powerplay. (Second City Hockey)

George Parros is now the head of NHL player safety. You read correctly. In his defense he’s never been suspended, holds an Economics Degree from Princeton, and clearly has experience in the NHL. He says he wants to cut down on slashing. My guess is that by next year, the NHL will have introduced a new rule to further confuse slashing. (Sportsnet)

That’s all she wrote for this week. Vent below!
