Wrappin' It Up

Connor McDavid had a pair of goals as the Edmonton Oilers took care of the Hurricanes by a 4-0 margin on Wednesday night in Saskatoon.  The Oilers will wrap up the preseason tonight with a trip to Vancouver.

The Oilers are saying

"I think he's becoming part of our family here and big brothers are looking out for him, not only on the ice but of the ice and away from the rink...When that happens, it's usually a sign of a pretty close team and when somebody new comes in and the group cares for them."

That's Oilers head coach Todd McLellan on how Kailer Yamamoto is fitting in with the Oilers

We'll know whether or not he makes the club in a day or so, but with Anton Slepyshev out with an ankle issue for now, I feel it's a pretty good bet he's in Edmonton for a game or two to start the season.

The opponents are saying

That's Canucks forward Jake Virtanen talking about a goal that was set up by our good buddy Sam Gagner.

Never thought there'd be a time where Zack Kassian would be an Oiler and Sam Gagner a Canuck. But hey, here we are.

Have some of this

  • LINES:  We'll know a lot more later today, but yesterday saw Kailer Yamamoto on the top six and Jesse Puljujarvi swapping in on the third line.  Leon Draisaitl was again with Connor McDavid atop the roster.
  • DIdn't see that coming.  This would be Slepyshev's first presason action if he makes it in tonight.  It could also be a game changer when it comes to roster decisions.
  • CLIP CLIP - Brad Malone is the latest Oiler to be sent down.  Malone had a hell of a game against the Jets last week when he scored two goals.
  • DRESS REHEARSAL: This is the last chance to work out the kinks, iron out the knots, fill in the gaps, uh, run though the show, uh...line 'em up...you get the idea. The regular season begins on Wednesday.  Expect a full roster tonight, and let 'er rip.
  • Let's.  Go.  Oilers.
