Anton Slepyshev To Start Season On Injured Reserve

Ankle injury will keep Anton Slepyshev out of the lineup at season’s start

Anton Slepyshev was announced to have had an ankle injury at the beginning of camp, and he’ll start the season on injured reserve because of it. Unless the Oilers are set on keeping Yamamoto off the big club in favour of Iiro Pakarinen, I’d venture a guess that this increases Yamamoto’s chance of surviving the final cuts into the regular season.

Yamamoto is probably the second most talked about Oiler in recent days due to his strong preseason. He has six points (5-1-6) in four preseason games, and he’s making it very hard for this club to make a decision to return him to Spokane (WHL).

With just seven days remaining until the Oilers host the Flames at Rogers Place, the Oilers’ roster will take shape very shortly. The club will need to figure out whether or not they’ll keep Brad Malone, who had a two goal game the other day. Maybe they’ll go with Yohann Auvitu as their seventh D, or maybe they’ve found revived value in Mark Fayne.

Maybe they hit the waiver wire over the next week for that seventh defenceman. Whatever they do, they’ll need to act sooner than later.
