PROJECTED LINES

Up in a bit

Still Perfect

The Edmonton Oilers remain perfect throughout the preseason after dusting off Vancouver's 'C' team last night by a 5-3 margin. Kailer Yamamoto and Iiro Pakarinen had two goals each, while Leon Draisaitl added a goal to make it five for the Oilers.  Edmonton remains perfect in preseason, and they'll go for five tonight.

The Oilers are saying

That's Oilers' defenceman Yohann Auvitu after last night's 5-3 victory over Vancouver.

Things are a little hectic when he's got the puck in his own end. Unless the minds and hearts of Mark Fayne's detractors were caught up in the moment last night, Auvitu seems a fair bet to earn the 7D spot on this club.

The opponents are saying

It’s going to be huge. You get a lot of power plays, it gives you a lot of momentum. Hopefully, we can be on the right side of those calls

That's Jets forward Mark Scheifele on using special teams to your advantage.

The Jets are going to bring in retired official Paul Devorski to explain what officials are looking for when calling penalties.  That's an interesting approach.

Have some of this

  • LINES:  It's early and we'll pass it on when we find out who's in.  I'm thinking we'll see something closer to an NHL lineup for the Oilers after two games of half teams.
  • JET BOY, JET GIRL: The Jets have yet to win a preseason game in three tries.  That doesn't sound like too much of a problem, but they've managed to score just two goals total in those three games.  They were held to zero goals against Minnesota on Thursday, and a full Jet squad managed just one goal against half an Oilers squad on Wednesday.
  • I GOT 98 PROBLEMS - Jesse Puljujarvi will be back in tonight's lineup after being out for the last two games.  After less than stellar reviews four days ago, let's hope he shows some pushback or some jam or some crust or some gel or some other food-or-hair-care-related hockey euphemism that makes everyone happy out there.
  • ALL YAMAMOTO, ALL THE TIME: Give me as much Yamamoto content as humanly possible right now.  Four goals in three preseason games, wind him up and let him go.  I don't think the OIlers are seriously considering him for a roster spot right now, but Todd McLellan suggested that he's competing for a spot on the 23 man roster after last night's 5-3 victory against Vancouver.  I'm with it.
  • Let's.  Go.  Oilers.
