Time For Hockey
The players are ready and the ice is set. The Edmonton Oilers are ready for their split-squad matchup with the Calgary Flames. While it's nice that hockey is back, sending half a squad to Calgary while keeping the other half of the squad in Edmonton to play half of Calgary's squad while the other half of Calgary's squad is back in Calgary is almost as difficult to cover as this sentence. Either way, we've got preseason hockey on tap, and it's not a minute too soon.
The Oilers are saying
"Ironically, we were working on defence and defensive zone coverage and that type of stuff. And all of a sudden we've got a 10-goal game...It was nice to see the offence coming out. I thought some of the higher-end players really took charge of the scrimmage today and had an impact on it."
Source
That's Oilers' head coach Todd McLellan after yesterday's scrimmage. Team White rallied from a 5-1 deficit to win it in a shootout. The shootout winner? Jujhar Khaira, of course.
The opponents are saying
"The biggest thing with new guys...is building a relationship. And that takes time."
That's Flames goaltending coach Jordan Siglet on Calgary's two new netminders.
Siglet's got his relationship work cut out for him this year with Mike Smith (who spent 2016-17 in Arizona) and Eddie Lack (who spent 2016-17 in Carolina).
