Tuesday Morning Hotlinks: Fans Expectations

Hockey: World Cup of Hockey-Press Conference Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning all, I hope you made use of the long weekend. Here are some links.

After initial ambiguity regarding the situation, it turns out that no players on NHL contracts will be able to attend the Olympics. Not even if they’re in the Minors. This includes two way deals and players loaned to other teams. Players strictly on AHL deals are allowed only at their GMs discretion. Players loaned to a European team however, can still participate. (Sportsnet)

David Staples did what he did best this weekend, issued a poll. He wants to find out exactly how the Oilers must finish in order to call it a success. Guys, your expectations are a little ridiculous. We just had a season with almost no injuries, luck is a large part of playoff success or failure and I’ve covered why Chiarelli has done a good job before. Putting an arbitrary mark on a successful season without context will leave you disappointed. (Edmonton Journal)

Sidney Crosby turned 30 yesterday. Naturally TSN made a full piece counting down all of his top 30 moments. Despite the fact that you might find this kind of thing annoying and hate how much exposure the player gets, I’d lay off throwing the stones too hard. You’ll be defending these pieces about Connor McDavid in ten years. (TSN)

Why is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins still here? He had a bad season and Chia loves trading 1st overall picks, what gives? Better speculate a bit. (Oil on Whyte)

Are you as big a fan of Oscar Klefbom as I am? No. No, you’re not. Still, Lowetide shows a bunch of reasons that he is, in fact, completely fantastic. (Lowetide)

A week late but after our serious accounting error, our top 25 under 25 starts today. At 10 am MT a piece written by yours truly will air followed by another one by Matt at 3 PM. Be sure to check in a few times per day as we will continue running them until we are out of eligible players.

That’s it for today, comment below.
