Now that Leon Draisaitl is signed, reporters can turn their attention to other teams’ players who need contracts. Luke Fox starts with John Tavares. Naturally I think that Tavares is going to sign a long term deal with the islanders at a high cap hit as is what happens when star players near free-agency. GMs get so worried about other teams giving UFAs a dumb contract that they make sure to do it themselves first. (Sportsnet)

What does Peter Chiarelli have planned for the rest of the summer? Not too much of anything by the sounds of it. Jaromir Jagr is mentioned in the Article, as is Jarome Iginla. One of these players can still play, the other cannot. (Edmonton Journal)

Another Fansided site thinks that the Oilers have the right idea signing Draisaitl and Connon McDavid to long term deals. I agree with most of it, especially that bridge contracts are stupid. The first few paragraphs are good but then it talks about the Maple Leafs. It’s a Leafs site so, I guess I’ll let it slide. (editorinleaf)
