The Oilers have agreed to terms with Brad Malone on a two year deal. The 28-year-old spent the last year as a member of the Blues AHL team, and the previous 5 years split between the Capitals, Hurricanes and Avalanche Organizations after being drafted 105th overall in the 07 NHL Entry Draft.
The centreman played 57 NHL games in 2015-2016 recording 2 goals, 4 assists, and 75 PIMs. Where he is slotted to play in the Oilers’ lineup is unclear at the moment. He wasn’t the player most of us were hoping for when free agency opened but it appears to be a good depth signing none the less. He played the season last year in the AHL so it isn’t out of the question that he will start next season in Bakersfield.
Terms of the deal are not yet available, update to come.
It’s good to see that Chiarelli hasn’t gone on vacation already, but we’re still short a few pieces and two major extensions. Hopefully there is more to report shortly.
Update: The contract is a 2-way $1.3M deal. $650k per year in the NHL or a $250K Minors salary.
