The Oilers have made their first dip into the 2017 free agent pool. Winger Ty Rattie has signed to a one year deal with the Oilers. The deal is a two way deal that will see him make 700K/275K based on where he’s at during the year.
Rattie split time with the Carolina Hurricanes and the St. Louis Blues last season. Rattie notched two assists. He put up five points with the Chicago Wolves (AHL, 2-3-5).
Rattie is purely a depth signing, though seeing him on the big club during the season wouldn’t be totally surprising in the event of an injury. With Tyler Pitlick signing a three year deal in Dallas, a Rattie sighting isn’t out of the question.
The Oilers still need to address the depth on the back end, and they would do well to sign a mid six RW like Radim Vrbata, Ales Hemsky or Jaromir Jagr for a year.
