Free agency is here once again. The Oilers might take a dip into the free agent pool today (Cody Franson! Radim Vrbata!), they might not.
The Oilers can afford to take on one or two short term deals for a year or two. Anything after that and the Oilers could find themselves in even more cap trouble as the 2018-19 season comes into light.
We are expecting to hear about a long extension for Connor McDavid today, and it would be nice if we heard about a long extension for Leon Draisaitl today. I’ve got a lot of confidence in the former, less so among the latter. I’m not sure why Chiarelli is going around telling people that he’ll “match anything” with regards to an offer sheet.
