Griffen Reinhart is the Oiler going to the Desert. #ExpansionDraft
— John Shannon (@JSportsnet) June 21, 2017
The Griffin Reinhart era has ended in Edmonton.
John Shannon has reported that the Vegas Golden Knights will select defenceman Griffin Reinhart in the expansion draft. Reinhart’s time in Edmonton will likely be remembered more for the cost needed to acquire him from the Islanders than any of his time on ice. Reinhart was acquired prior to the 2015 entry draft for picks 16 and 33, and he was limited to just 30 total games over two years. He spent the majority of 2016-17 in Bakersfield, amassing 21 points (7-14-21) in 54 games.
Good for Reinhart. Going to Vegas will likely give him a better shot at cracking a lineup that hasn’t yet been set. Good for the Oilers because they can now turn a less than impressive page in Peter Chiarelli’s short time as general manager.
All of Vegas’ selections will be unveiled tonight at the NHL Awards show.
