As the Stanley Cup edges closer to completion, some good news has come along if you’re willing to put a couple of nickels on the line.

After a successful season that saw Edmonton come to within just one goal of the conference finals, oddsmakers have put the Oilers at 10/1 to win the Stanley Cup in 2018. Go on, read that again. I’ll wait. The Book is finally picking the Oilers to succeed, at least, more than some marginal, inconsequential six points closer to eighty on the season type of success!

Only the Pittsburgh Penguins currently garner more favourable odds at 8/1. Also repping 10/1 odds are Tampa Bay and Washington. Chicago trails the Oilers at 12-1, while Pacific Division adversaries Calgary (30-1), Los Angeles (20-1)) and Vancouver (100-1) trail far behind. The Vegas Golden Knights (though they have just two players signed at this point) are the longshots at 200-1.

It seems like just yesterday when the Oilers were a 50-1 longshot. It really wasn’t that long ago, something like three or four years isn’t too long if you survived the previous decade. If things fall just right for the Oilers, a couple of coins could be worth a lot more in a little more than a year from now.
