Tomorrow begins the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the Edmonton Oilers are one of eight teams remaining. In six games, they toppled the San Jose Sharks. Aside from one very lopsided game in San Jose for the Sharks, the Oilers did a pretty good job in shutting San Jose’s offence down.
Edmonton struggled to score goals in the first four games in the series against San Jose, but they got a couple of key game winners from an unlikely source in Zack Kassian. Managing just five goals in the first four games, Edmonton played to a 2-2 series tie until a 4-3 overtime victory and a 3-1 win to seal the series in game 6. When scoring was down for the Oilers, Cam Talbot stood on his head. Edmonton put it all together and took it in six.
Winners of the Pacific Division, Anaheim hasn’t lost in regulation since March 10th against St. Louis. They finished perfectly average in the goal scoring department (17th), but were third overall in team defence. Anaheim disposed of Calgary in four straight games last round.
The series starts tomorrow night. How does this one finish?
