Oilers Top Kings, Clinch a Playoff Spot

On April 3, 2009 at 12:44PM the Copper and Blue went live on SB Nation. In the 2,916 days since then the Oilers have played a total of 620 games, compiling a record of 231-312-34-43, and not once has one of the many writers who have filled this site with their thoughts over the last eight seasons ever typed these simple words: Tonight the Edmonton Oilers clinched a playoff spot. Yeah, it still sounds weird to say out loud.

I’m not going to waste your time by breaking down the game in detail. You probably don’t care and I absolutely don’t care. So here’s the quick version instead. Connor McDavid scored a lucky goal, er ... I mean a highlight reel goal. Eric Gryba scored his second of the season mere minutes after I mocked him for looking like a pylon because of course he did. And the Oilers had two goals call back; one that I can sort of understand and one that makes zero sense. Oh, and Jarome Iginla scored what was probably his 182nd career goal against the Oilers.
