A Five Goal Third
The Oilers yielded four goals to the Avalanche in just two periods of play. A goaltending switch would ensue, and they then would roar back in the third to score five straight en route to a 7-4 victory.
The Oilers will get another chance to take on a terrible Avalanche team tonight. They'd do well by giving Brossoit the start.
The Oilers are saying
"It's been a test of my patience. It's patience training. I'm learning to adapt to it for sure"
That's Laurent Brossoit on backing up Cam Talbot this year.
Laurent Brossoit should get the start tonight. He should probably start two or three more games this year. Cam Talbot has played the most minutes out of any goaltender this year, and he's lookin' like a nap is in order. Maybe a cocktail weenie or two. Give the guy a break. If the club isn't sold on Laurent Brossoit spelling for Talbot every now and again, then why the hell didn't the club get a backup netminder at the trade deadline?
The opponents are saying
"The fear of losing a little bit in the third period when something goes wrong for us, the culmination of our mistakes, or just the mistakes we're making, are very costly to us. It's a fine line between winning and losing those games, and we have to keep that in perspective, and we have to try to keep working through that."

That's Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar after his club's 7-4 loss to the Oilers on Thursday.
The Oilers scored five goals in the third period, and that's pretty great. The Avalanche amassed a mighty six shots in the third period on relief goaltender Laurent Brossoit. The Avalanche are several types of terrible this season.
Have some of this
- Calvin Pickard (13-25-2, .909 SV% / 2.88 GAA / 2 SO) makes a nice glove save on Sidney Crosby here. He'll face off against who I hope will be Laurent Brossoit (2-1-0, .928 SV% / 2.26 SV%).
- Connor McDavid's two assist night gives him 87 points on the year. He's got nine games to get 13 points to hit a cool hundred. If the Oilers have any more five goal periods left in them, he might be able to get halfway there tonight.
- The Oilers will be without Tyler Pitlick (knee). Colorado is once again without defenceman Nikita Zadorov (ankle) and Semyon Varlamov (groin)
- A win tonight and a Sharks loss in regulation will put Edmonton into a share of first at the 75 game mark. I'm OK with all of this.
