Dallas Stars @ Edmonton Oilers Game Thread

Struggling Stars visit Oilers, who could really use a win.

NHL: New York Islanders at Dallas Stars
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Oilers are currently 1-2-1 on their eight game homestand. Tonight, they’ll face a struggling Dallas Stars team that’s got issues every whichway. They’ve got trouble in goal. They’re last in the league on the penalty kill. They allow shorthanded goals like it’s their job.

The Oilers need a win to maintain pace with Anaheim and Calgary.

What To Watch For From The Oilers

These are games that good teams win. Dallas is fresh off a 5-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks, and they’re now in Edmonton to take on a team that’s no doubt upset with their performance against Montréal that saw Edmonton score just one goal.

What To Watch For From The Stars

From Defending Big D

With the Stars sitting 13 points behind the St. Louis Blues now, the Stars have a less than .01% chance at a playoff position, which basically means they don’t have more to play for the rest of the season than NHL draft position.

This is a game that the Oilers should not lose. Not now.

Final Thought

A win will help sooth the freakout that ensued after a 4-1 loss to Montréal. A loss will result in all sorts of havoc. Fire alarms, loud sirens, no bells and no whistles.
