2017 NHL Trade Deadline Coverage

Every move. Every team.

Iginla could be on the move today.

It's time.  Trade deadline time.  Buyers will make moves to tweak their rosters in the hope that it will be a difference maker come playoffs.  Sellers....will stockpile draft picks and prospects.

This post will contain every move that occurs on Wednesday, March 1st.  There'll be a little blurb about a move if I'm feeling one way or another about it.

Are you ready?

Nearly three hours into the day, the Coyotes trade Brendan Ranford to the Avalanche for Joe Whitney.  Forward Joe Whitney has five games of NHL experience with New Jersey.  He's got 28 points this year with San Antonio (AHL). Forward Brendan Ranford has seventeen points between Texas and Tucson (AHL)

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired goaltender Joe Cannata from the Washington Capitals for Cody Corbett. The 27 year old Cannata has a .876 SV% in 22 games with Hershey (AHL), while the 23 year old defenceman Corbett has split time with San Antonio (AHL) and Colorado (ECHL) this season.

The Florida Panthers have acquired Thomas Vanek for Dylan McIlrath and a third round draft pick.  Vanek has 38 points in 48 games this year, while the 24 year old forward McIlrath has one goal in five games with Florida.  Detroit retains 50% of Vanek's hit.  I like this deal for Florida.

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired fourth line forward Dwight King from the Los Angeles Kings for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2018.  King has fifteen points (8-7-15) in 63 games with the Canadiens this year.  Montreal now has a fourth liner and Steve Ott, so I'm not really sure what they're going for with these deals.

The Colorado Avalanche have traded Jarome Iginla to the Los Angeles Kings for a conditional fourth round draft pick.    I really didn't expect him to end up in Edmonton, but with the ability to control his destination, I would've figured he would've picked a team that was already in the playoffs.  The Avalanche will retain 50% of Iginla's salary.

Two goalies are swapped as Tampa Bay trades Adam Wilcox to the Florida Panthers for Mike McKenna.  McKenna  is sporting a .907 SV% for Springfield (AHL), while  Wilcox is hitting .895 SV% in Syracuse.  Wilcox is 9 years younger than McKenna.

The Edmonton Oilers have sent Taylor Beck to the New York Rangers for Justin Fontaine.  Beck led the Condors (AHL) in scoring with 50 points in 40 games, while Justin Fontaine has 30 for Hartford (AHL).  Fontaine spent the last three seasons on Minnesota's roster, averaging 23 points a season.  He's a former Bonnyville Pontiac with Mark Letestu.  He may be a fourth line option on the big club.

The Devils have traded defenceman Kyle Quincey to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenceman Dalton Prout. Prout hasn't had a good season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, dressing in just 15 games.  Quincey averaged over 20 minutes of ice while with the Devils.  Quincey is in the last year of his deal, while Prout has one more year at 1.575 AAV.

The Colorado Avalanche have traded Andreas Martinsen to the Montreal Canadiens for Sven Andrighetto. Andrighetto has played parts of three seasons with Montreal,  he has 8 points in 27 games with the Habs this year (2-6-8).  Martinsen has 110 pro games, all with Colorado.  He's got seven points (3-4-7) this season.

Philadelphia's Mark Streit has been dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning.  The Lightning send Valtteri Filppula to the Flyers for a fourth round pick and a conditional seventh round pick.  Filppula has 34 points (7-27-34) in 59 games this year, but the winner in this deal is Steve Yzerman who frees up five million in cap space.  Filpulla has one more year on his deal.

The Nashville Predators have acquired P.A. Parenteau for a sixth round pick.  27 points for Parenteau in New Jersey this year (13-14-27), basically traded for a lottery ticket.

Curtis Lazar has been traded with Mike Kostka to the Calgary Flames for a second round pick and Jyrki Jokipakka.   Lazar hasn't panned out in Ottawa the way everyone has hoped.  Will a change of scenery make a difference?

The whistle has blown.  It is now 3 o'clock Eastern.

The Leafs have acquired fourth line forward Eric Fehr.  The 31 year old veteran has eleven points (6-5-11) in 52 games with the Penguins this year.  Toronto also receives defenceman Steven Oleksy, who has appeared in eleven games with Pittsburgh this year. Also included:  a fourth round pick.   Pittsburgh receives defenceman Frank Corrado, who had fallen out of favour in Toronto.

Mark Streit has now been traded to the PIttsburgh Penguins from the Tampa Bay Lightning.  The Lightning receive a fourth round pick in 2018.

Ryan Rishaug reports that the Oilers are done for the day.

The Winnipeg Jets have traded Drew Stafford to the Boston Bruins for a conditional sixth round pick.  Stafford's name has been thrown around Edmonton for as long as I can remember, but he's headed to Boston.  Thirteen points in forty games for Stafford, who is in final year of his two year deal.

The Stars have traded Lauri Korpikoski to the St. Louis Blues for prospect Dillon Heatherington.
