Pandas Profiles 2016-2017 Part 3

Meeting the last part of an amazing women’s hockey team.

The Pandas hockey team is one with the most storied history in western conference. Of a possible 19 Canada West Conference titles, the Pandas have claimed 12. They have 7 National titles which is the most of any single school. Each year, the women’s game at the various universities across Canada grows more competitive and shows greater depth of talent.

This year, and this year’s Pandas, are no different. Some of the Pandas were introduced in Pandas Profiles 2016-2017 Parts 1 and 2, but here are some more talented players. All answers come from the Pandas themselves. The Pandas play their final regular season games this coming weekend.

Ashley Morin

Name: Ashley Morin

Position: Forward

Height: 5'7"

Eligibility: 4th Year

Which shootout move is your favourite? Deek then five hole

What is your favourite food? Pizza

What is your favourite movie? Bridesmaids

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? Boat, Margaritaville, Fishing rod

When did you start playing hockey? 6 years old

What is your favourite thing about hockey? Meeting new friends and the competition.

Amy Boucher

Name: Amy Boucher

Position: Forward

Height: 5'6"

Which shootout move is your favourite? Fake shot to freeze the goalie then tucking it on the forehand.

What is your favourite food? Potatoes in any form

What is your favourite movie? Legally Blonde

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? My face wash and moisturizer, a lighter, and a puppy.

When did you start playing hockey? When I was 7.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? The opportunities it has brought me. Also scoring.

Alex Poznikoff

Name: Alex Poznikoff

Which shootout move is your favourite? My favorite shootout move is the McDavid. Come in fast then slow down and try to trick the goalie. This is my favorite however I cannot do it ...but maybe one day.

What is your favourite food? Chicken and Rice

What is your favourite movie? Planet Earth

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? A plane, guitar, and a skimboard.

When did you start playing hockey? When I was three. So I have been playing for 16 years.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? I love the sport and the team atmosphere. Also how this game brings my whole family together whether it is to watch me or to practice with me. It's a time when we are all together.

Morgan Burr

Which shootout move is your favourite? My favourite shootout move is a forehand fake to backhand.

What is your favourite food? My favourite food is Chicken Marcella.

What is your favourite movie? My favourite movie is Safe Haven.

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? if I was stranded on an island I would need water, matches and sunscreen.

When did you start playing hockey? I started playing hockey when I was 10.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? My favourite thing about hockey is I get to be part of a team and build lifelong friendships. I also like the competitive aspect.

Abby Benning

Lindsey Post

Name: Lindsey Post

Position: Goalie

What is your favourite NHL goalie mask? My favourite goalie mask of all time has to be Curtis Joseph's mask back when he used to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What is your favourite food? Pizza

What is your favourite movie? 21 Jump Street

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? A Volleyball, my best friend, and pizza.

When did you start playing hockey? I was about 4 years old when I started to skate. I didn't join organized hockey until I was 10.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? I love how many great opportunities it gives you and the amazing people you meet.

Megan Eady

Which shootout move is your favourite? High and wide, or right into the logo.

What is your favourite food? Peanut butter & Banana Sandwich.

What is your favourite movie? Finding Neverland

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? Triple sec, tequila, and lime juice.

When did you start playing hockey? When my older brother decided he needed a defence to practice all his dangles on.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? Watching my friends skate around in practice with goofy nicknames taped to the front of their helmets.

Kennedy Ganser

Name: Kennedy Ganser

Which shootout move is your favourite? I like deeking the goalie out onto my forehand side then going backhand.

What is your favourite food? My favourite food is steak and potatoes.

What is your favourite movie? I have two favourite movies Dumb and Dumber and Benchwarmers.

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? I would need a way to call for help, an axe to get trees and matches to start a fire.

When did you start playing hockey? I started playing hockey when I was 5 or 6 years old.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? My favourite thing about hockey is getting to be apart of a team and I also love the competitiveness of the sport.

Erica Nelson

Name: Erica Nelson

Position: Forward

Which shootout move is your favourite? Any one that goes in is pretty sick.

What is your favourite food? I always enjoy a good pasta but you can never go wrong with steak and potatoes.

What is your favourite movie? Miss Congeniality or The Proposal.

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? Form of entertainment (probably music), hammock, and bug spray.

When did you start playing hockey? When I was four.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? I like having something to keep me busy, making great plays, and winning games.

Jaslin Sawatzky

Name: Jaslin Sawatzky

Position: Forward

Height: 5'5"

Eligibility: 1st Year

Jersey Number: 91

Which shootout move is your favourite? My favourite shootout move (although it rarely works for me because I am not blessed with the silkiest hands) is a quick little fake to the backhand and then a pull to the forehand to snipe the puck bar-down.

What is your favourite food? I have a lot of favourite foods, but if I have to choose just one, I would say pirogi.

What is your favourite movie? Once again, there are too many good movies to choose from. One of my all time favourites though is Up.

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you need? If I was stranded on an island, I would bring a satellite phone, a flashlight, and matches.

When did you start playing hockey? I started playing hockey when I was 8 years old.

What is your favourite thing about hockey? I love the speed, intensity, and battle components of the sport. Playing hockey has given me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people (friends, coaches, mentors), who I never would have met otherwise. It has also taught me so many valuable life lessons (leadership, accountability, teamwork, trust, respect) that I believe have shaped me into the person that I am today.

The Pandas return to Clare Drake on Friday night against the Manitoba Bisons to determine second place in the Canada West Conference and to host their annual charity game. This weekend is the last to see some regular season Pandas action.

As always, I am humbled by the opportunity to talk about or present a team that means the world to me. The talent and dedication is always humbling to be around. I hope that this opportunity to learn more convinces some readers to see what this team is all about.
