Slightly Better Than None, Is One

Connor McDavid scored Edmonton's only goal, but it was Sebastian Aho who scored the game winner for the Hurricanes.  The goal was Aho's fourth in two games, after a three-goal performance against the Flyers on Tuesday.

Jordan Staal scored Carolina's first goal midway through the first.

The Oilers are 0 for their last 3.  They'll take on a Canadiens club that was defeated by the Capitals yesterday afternoon.

Let's go to the tape.

The Oilers are saying

That's Oilers head coach Todd McLellan on getting out East.

The Oilers did not hold a practice yesterday and will not practice this morning before today's game.  The Oilers will need to use that rest to try and exploit the fact that Montréal was in action yesterday against Washington.

The opponents are saying

That's Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty on falling just short against the Capitals yesterday.

The Canadiens played the Capitals yesterday afternoon, and will turn right around and play the Oilers this afternoon. The Canadiens are first in the Atlantic by seven points, though Ottawa is second with three games in hand.

Have some of this

  • BENNING OUT:  Brian Matthew Benning was put on the IR yesterday after suffering a facial injury in Friday's loss to the Hurricanes.  The Oilers also put Jujhar Khaira on the IR dating back to mid-January.  They've recalled Jordan Oesterle and Griffin Reinhart to fill the hole on defence.  I've got Eric Gryba and Jordan Oesterle in today, as both Benning and Kris Russell are unable to go.
  • SIXTY POINTS FOR CONNOR:  McDavid's goal on Friday was Edmonton's only goal of the game, but it helped push him to sixty on the year.  Sidney Crosby is right behind him with 59.
  • Cam Talbot will go for the Oilers (26-15-7, .920 SV% / 2.37 GAA / 4 SO).  Carey Price (23-12-5, .922 SV% / 2.35 GAA / 2 SO) played yesterday for the Canadiens and could go again today.  Al Montoya (7-4-2, .909 SV% / 2.72 GAA / 1 SO) is Montréal's backup plan.
  • Tyler Pitlick (knee), Kris Russell, Matthew Benning (face), Jujhar Khaira (wrist) and Darnell Nurse (lower body) will be out for the Oilers. The Canadiens are without Brendan Gallagher (hand)
  • The time is not now to begin panicking.  The time now, is to begin winning games.  After today, the Oilers don't play again until Saturday against Chicago.  Two points would be welcome today.
