None Is A Terrible Number

You can't beat the Nashville Predators when you score zero goals.  It's just science, people.

The Oilers have lost two straight, and they'll need to score more than zero goals if they're going escape Carolina with two points.  Start with getting one goal.  Then two.  Baby steps.

The Oilers are saying

That's Oilers head coach Todd McLellan on last night's playoff style atmosphere.

It was Viktor Arvidsson who opened the scoring, but it didn't happen until the second period.  Arvidsson is a thorn in the side of the Oilers, and right now, there's no cure.

The opponents are saying

That's Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.  Forward Sebastian Aho was driving the bus, as he scored three goals en route to a big victory.

Have some of this

  • FUN FACTS: The Hurricanes have the NHL's top ranked penalty kill at 87.8%.
  • OIL KING FOR OIL KING: The Oilers traded Mitch Moroz (!!) to the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday for Henrik Samuelsson. Samuelsson was selected exactly five spots earlier than Moroz in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.  Samuelsson has three points (2-1-3) in 20 games with Tucson (AHL) and has appeared in three NHL games.
  • CHECKING IN ON CONNOR: Nobody scored any points last game. Connor McDavid still leads the NHL scoring race with 59 points in 53 games played.  Sidney Crosby is second with 56.  San Jose's Brent Burns checks in at third with 55.
  • Cam Talbot will probably start for the Oilers (26-14-7, .920 SV% / 2.38 GAA / 4 SO).  The Hurricanes will likely counter with Cam Ward (19-16-6 .907 SV% / 2.58 GAA / 2 SO). A .907 SV% kinda gives me the heebie-jeebies. Ward is "being looked at" right now, and is a game time decision. Eddie Lack will go if Ward cannot.
  • Iiro Pakarinen (knee), Tyler Pitlick (knee), Jujhar Khaira (wrist) and Darnell Nurse (lower body) will be out for the Oilers. The Hurricanes are without forward Bryan Bickell.
