A look at the Pacific Division after Edmonton's 2-1 loss to the Capitals

  • Oilers really could have made some hay with a victory in Washington, but it was Justin Williams who scored the difference maker for the Capitals midway through the third period.  .  Leon Draisaitl scored Edmonton's only goal, a puck that Justin Williams turned over almost directly in front of Caps goaltender Braden Holtby. It was a sloppy game for the Oilers.  Credited with only six giveaways, it sure felt like a lot more.
  • Caps skated an entire game without getting penalized.  Fancy that.
  • It's another game that saw the Oilers score just one goal.  To their defence, the Capitals are a pretty damn good hockey club, so wipe your hands and move on to Nashville on Sunday.  The Oilers were without Adam Larsson, but they did get Andrej Sekera back after he took a shot off the arm from Aaron Ekblad.
  • The Oilers activated Darnell Nurse from the IR yesterday.  It's possible you might see Nurse and Larsson in Nashville.  Wouldn't that be good?
  • Jujhar Khaira played his second game in a row in for Anton Slepyshev.  9:44 on Wednesday against the Panthers, and 11:16 last night against the Capitals.  Khaira had three shots (!) and two hits.
  • ELSEWHERE: Oilers wake up in third place as they now have the same points and games played as the Ducks, but Anaheim has one more win in regulation.  The Ducks will face the Kings tonight, while the Oilers will take on the Predators tomorrow.  Nashville takes on the Capitals tonight, and the Oilers will have the luxury of getting the Predators on their second night of a back-to-back.
  • The Ducks traded a second round pick for Patrick Eaves.  The second round pick could turn into a first round pick if a couple of things happen.
  • The Blackhawks traded a third round pick to the Red Wings for forward Tomas Jurco.  Jurco is a depth move for the Blackhawks, who are very light on cap space.
  • Just three more days until the trade deadline.  Will Peter Chiarelli acquire a backup goaltender? (he should)  A bottom six centre? (please)  Maybe another defenceman?  (not a bad idea, really)
