On The Other Side Of The Bye

The Oilers emerge from the bye week looking pretty good.  The Kings are Edmonton's closest concern in the Pacific Division, and they're six points behind the Oilers with 55 games played.  Calgary sits seven behind with one more game played.  We're nearing the midpoint of February, and the Oilers just need to keep on doing what they've been doing, which is Connor McDavid doing his thing, Cam Talbot doing his thing, and letting the pieces fall where they may.

The Oilers are saying

That's Oilers head coach Todd McLellan on defenceman Matthew Benning.

Getting Benning back would be a fairly huge coup for the Oilers, as they were two defencemen down on the right side with Gryba and Oesterle dressed last Sunday in Montréal. Benning had been out since the Carolina game after he collided with Viktor Stalberg.

The opponents are saying

That's Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford on the play of defenceman Brent Seabrook in Chicago's 5-2 win over the Jets.

The Blackhawks will close out their six game road trip this evening in Edmonton.

Have some of this

  • NO RUSSEL:   Kris Russell will miss today's game with an undisclosed injury.  It will be the second consecutive game he'll be out.  Since Sunday's game, defenceman Jordan Oesterle and forward Anton Lander have been shipped to OKC and subsequently recalled.
  • Cam Talbot will likely go for the Oilers (27-15-7, .921 SV% / 2.32 GAA / 5 SO).  Scott Darling (12-5-2, ..925 SV% / 2.31 GAA / 2 SO) will likely go for the Blackhawks as Corey Crawford earned the W for Chicago last night versus the Jets.
  • Tyler Pitlick (knee), Kris Russell, Jujhar Khaira (wrist) and Darnell Nurse (lower body) will be out for the Oilers. The Blackhawks will be without defenceman Michal Rozsival (lower body)
  • A win today puts the Oilers right back with Anaheim.  Five days rest should help contribute to a W.
