Good morning. Yesterday I asked for things I may have missed in the past week, and there is a big one that I had to find on my own. Apparently Kris Russell scored on his own net and then Stauffer and Matheson had meltdowns, called their readers losers and told them to get a life.
This is the kind of stuff that I really need to know because it’s damn hilarious. Please, if I miss stuff like that again, I need to know. I can reference it at some point in a game recap down the line.
Anyway, on to the links.
Russia has been banned from the Olympics. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the KHL responds in regards to letting their players go, now. Also, I didn’t think I’d ever get to link BBC into a hockey blog. I’d find a way to do it more if the got Hammond, May and Clarkson back. The Grand Tour is fine, though. (BBC)
Apparently Connor McDavid is just now getting over the flu. I personally don’t believe it’s the flu, it’s lasted quite a while for an athlete of all people. Then again, I am not qualified to assess medical issues. (TSN)
Lowetide takes a look at the Oilers’ history with Russian players. I didn’t realize how little of them have worked out for us. It’s interesting. (Athletic)
Derek Dorsett was forced to retire from the NHL this week due to a spinal injury. He doesn’t want you to feel for him. He put a Players’ Tribune style piece out through Sportsnet. (Sportsnet)
Andrej Sekera wants to return before Christmas. That is extremely good news given that Adam Larsson is on IR. (Oilers Nation)
With Cam Talbot also on the IR, Jeff gives us four goalie options that the Oilers could pick up for nothing. After seeing those names, it might be a better option to up the budget. (Copper&Blue)
That’s it for now. We’ll have full game coverage for tonight against Philly.
