Shame for Slepyshev who has looked good between injuries this year including scoring a goal for us last night.
Jesse Puljujarvi looks to jump into the top immediately. It will be interesting to see whether he plays with Connor McDavid and takes Leon Draisaitl’s spot, or if he slots next to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
He’s had a mediocre 5 points in 10 games in the AHL. Maybe he can replicated Leon Draisaitl’s transition from bad AHL numbers to stellar NHL numbers. I personally view Leon’s transition as a major outlier and not something to expect but I’ve seen the comparisons going around so I’ll hit them here.
If Yessa can play well on the powerplay and not be a detriment on defense, this could be the shot in the arm the Oilers need. Let’s just keep in mind that he hasn’t looked like a quality player since the World Juniors last year, so expect nothing and be happy with anything above that.
I assume he’ll play the early game against the Rangers tomorrow.
