Deflated In Columbus

The Blue Jackets hung a six spot against an Oilers team who got behind the ball early.  By the time the first period had ended, Columbus had the game's first two goals.  Three more for the Jackets in the second period, and the game was sewn up.  The Oilers got goals from Leon Draisaitl, a power play goal from Taylor Hall and another from some kid named Connor McDavid during this one, but Edmonton was unable to overcome an early deficit.

The Oilers will face the Winnipeg Jets today before heading home for a one game stint.  Let's go to the tape.

The Oilers are saying

"It's going to be a treat.  I'm glad I get a chance to play them in my first week, especially getting a few games under my belt and getting comfortable here with the system the players and the coaches.  I'm excited for Sunday.  I can't wait to go out there."

That's Oilers defenceman Adam Pardy on playing his former team.  Pardy is raring to go up against Winnipeg.

I'd be excited to play the Jets if Connor McDavid was on my team, too.

The opponents are saying

"We didn't give up, we continued to fight for the next one"   Source

That's Jets forward Mark Scheifele on Winnipeg's 4-2 victory over Montreal on Saturday night.  Scheifele had two goals en route to his team's W.

Scheifele currently ranks fourth on the Jets with 40 points (20-20-40) in 53 games.

Have some of this
  • I don't think the Connor McDavid factor can be counted out here.
  • MORE ON MAROON - A goal on Thursday and two assists on Friday.  That's three points in two games, which isn't too bad of a start since getting traded for a fourth round pick and Martin Gernat.
  • Anybody got Adam Pardy lasting past this season in Edmonton?  Pardy played 20:50 last game versus Columbus.  That's more than Darnell Nurse, Mark Fayne, and our good friend Nikita Nikitin.  He's cheaper than Nikitin, that's for damn sure.
  • I got Cam Talbot (15-22-4, .918 SV% / 2.54 GAA / 2 SO) going for the Oilers tonight, while Ondrej Pavelec (7-9-2 / .901 SV% / 2.81 GAA) should go in the second game of a back-to-back for the Jets.
  • What do Mike Smith and Ondrej Pavelec have in common?  A .901 SV%.  I'm here all day.
  • Andrew Ference (hip), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (hand), Eric Gryba (knee), Benoit Pouliot (shoulder)  and Oscar Klefbom (leg), are out for the Oilers, The Jets will be without Jacob Trouba (upper body), Anthony Peluso (upper body), Nikolaj Ehlers (eye), Bryan Little (upper body), Mark Stuart (hand) and Grant Clitsome (back).
