Tonight's Storyline

There was a day, way back in December, when the Oilers were in a playoff spot. That was a good day. The Oilers had played a couple more games than a lot of their divisional opponents at that point, and both San Jose and Anaheim were playing a step or two below the level that most expected, but whatever the reasons, the Oilers were in a playoff spot. In December no less. After the previous two seasons where the team had been effectively eliminated from playoff contention it was a nice change. As you know though, it didn't last, and if the Oilers lose in regulation tonight they will be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, tying the Panthers for the longest playoff drought in NHL history.
