Another Matniee Game, Another Poor Performance

Oilers lose a 5 - 1 stinker in Montreal

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

I will reiterate my statement from the previous Oilers’ matinee game. I hate matinee games. They are the absolute worst. Sure enough the Oilers did nothing to disprove my hypothesis.

Highlights

Will publish as soon as available

The Game

There is not going to be a good, bad or ugly today because the first two don’t apply since this game was pretty much all ugly.

Where to Start?

The biggest thorn in the side of the Oilers was Ben Scrivens. He sure didn’t look like the goalie that couldn’t stop a beach ball in the AHL. He looked similar to the goalie that stop 59 shots against the San Jose Sharks a few year ago just not tested as much.

The Oilers came out strong and got some decent chances to start the game but the wheels fell off after Montreal’s second goal. Bad plays were made, players pinched when they shouldn’t have and the back and forth rushes worked in the Habs favour this time instead of the Oilers’.

Justin Schultz looked like he missed his midday nap. He couldn’t make a proper offensive or defensive play all game and was the worst defenseman on the Oilers by a long shot.

I could go on and on about the poor play of the Oilers today but there is no point in beating a dead horse. It’s time to move on and hope the next matinee game is well in the future…

Up Next

Hey another matinee game! Yay! The Oilers head to Brooklyn to take on the New York Islanders. I’ll prepare myself for another sleepy game. See you tomorrow.
