Flying High

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist, and the Edmonton Oilers Young Stars toppled the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars by a score of 8-2.  While all eyes were surely on Connor McDavid, it was the first time that fans caught a glimpse of goaltender Eetu Laurikainen, defenceman Ethan Bear, and a handful of other Oiler hopefuls.

Oilers look to continue the good times tonight as they'll face off against Calgary's Young Stars.  Let's go to the tape.

The Oilers are saying

"I got hit, it's part of the game, whatever"

That's Oilers prospect Connor McDavid on absorbing a hit from Canucks prospect Jake Virtanen

Slow your roll, Twitter.  Connor McDavid took a big hit from another player, and he got up, and continued playing without issue.  He's gonna get hit about thirty thousand times in his NHL career (not including the one from Virtanen), and Mitch Moroz won't be there each any time to save him.  Keep the pitchforks in the barn until something dirty happens.  Then, send in the clowns.

The Opponent is saying

"I watched a bit of the Oilers game last night.  It looked like they have a pretty good team and I kind of know what to expect coming in"
That's Flames goaltending prospect Mason McDonald on what to expect from tonight's game against the Oilers

The first goaltender selected in 2014, nineteen year old Mason McDonald spent last season with with Charlottetown in the QMJHL.  With an entry-level deal in hand, this will be McDonald's second camp with the Flames

Have some of this
  • SANS MCDAVID - Connor McDavid will be held out of tonight's contest after scoring a(n ugly) goal and an assist last night.
  • FEED ME, SEYMOUR - Holy cripes, the feed was a disaster last night. Fingers crossed, it can handle the eight bajillion people streaming tonight's game.
  • NEON LEON, PT 2 - Leon Draisaitl also had a goal and an assist in last night's game, and he'll see action tonight in between Greg Chase and Anton Slepyshev
  • Jordan Papirny will get the start in between the pipes for the Oilers, while Eetu Laurikainen will back up.
