Bust Open This Thing
Like a freshly opened pudding cup, NHL hockey is back. Sort of. The Oilers Young Stars visit the South Okanagan Events Centre to take on the Canucks Young Stars. Of course, you're tuning in for Connor McDavid, but yes, there will be other players on the ice for Edmonton in addition to McDavid. We get to talk about Mitch Moroz in this game preview, let's not delay any further.
The Oilers are saying
"Did you ask him what it'd be like playing with me?"
That's Oilers prospect Mitch Moroz when asked how he felt playing on the same line as Connor McDavid.
If there's a time for Mitch Moroz to shine, playing alongside Connor McDavid is it. McDavid is starting out with Moroz and Greg Chase. Moroz spent last season with the Oklahoma City Barons, tallying nine points (5-4-9) in 66 contests. If he's about to develop a scorer's touch, doing it alongside McDavid is a nice place to start.
The Opponent is saying
"I have developed into more of a power forward type player...When I was a little bit younger I was still growign into my body, and still am, but I have become more of a power forward that can use my skill when I can."
- WE'RE HERE FOR MCDAVID - I'm conservatively predicting he scores thirteen goals and somehow makes Mitch Moroz look like Gary Roberts. I feel that's fair.
- "I'M CALM, BUT FAST" - The Oilers have three goalies in BC for the Young Stars tournament, and they'll take a look at Eetu Laurikainen for at least part of tonight. Laurikainen was signed to a two-year entry level deal back in May of this year.
- NEON LEON - Leon Draisaitl will find himself between Anton Slepyshev and Josh Winquist. Draisaitl is entering his second season as a member of the Oilers, and he'll look to start it off on the right foot tonight between Slepyshev, a third round pick in the 2013 entry draft and Josh Winquist, who spent time between Bakersfield and OKC last season.
- Look for Darnell Nurse alongside Joey Laleggia tonight. Darnell Nurse is the second guy I want to see after McDavid tonight. Hoping he blows everything out of the water. Nurse spent a couple of games in Edmonton to start the year, but was soon sent down to the Soo Greyhounds. The Oilers will need Darnell Nurse to be a difference-maker on the blue line in the not-too-distant future.

Let's do this.
