Ian Herbers from University of Alberta has been hired by @EdmontonOilers as assistant coach to round out Todd McLellan's staff. #Oilers #NHL

If the above tweet is accurate, the Oilers have completed their coaching staff with Ian Herbers, formerly of the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Herbers, who played in 22 games for the Oilers during the 1993/94 season, spent the last three seasons behind the Golden Bears bench, and led the team to back-to-back University Cup championships over the last two seasons. Before joining the Golden Bears he was an assistant at the AHL level, Head Coach and General Manager in the ECHL, and an assistant again in the AHL before a brief head coaching stint with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2011/12.
There has been nothing official from the Oilers regarding this yet, but as Reid Wilkins points out Herbers was around the Oilers during the team's recent orientation camp, so it certainly seems like there might be something to this story.
Saw Ian Herbers around Oilers orientation camp a lot. If he joins their staff, great choice to work with players, knows the up-tempo game.
