Babcock to Edmonton a Longshot

Elliotte Friedman names Babcock's top three destinations

James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

In the latest round of Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thoughts, he delves into the possibilities surrounding Mike Babcock and points at the Flyers as being Babcock's destination du jour.  Between their ability to use their financial largesse in Babcock's compensation package, Friedman seems to think that the Flyers core of talent is more attractive than the infinity dollar offer the Maple Leafs are expected to make:

Ron Hextall’s done a very good job of staying in the cone of silence. But his peers across the NHL believe he has been waiting for this, planning meticulously for the opportunity. You have to think Toronto will make the largest financial offer, but other teams think Philly is going to be up there, too.

What does Babcock think of Claude Giroux, Steve Mason, Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek and their young defencemen not yet in the NHL?

That leaves the Oilers as one of 29 bridesmaids, though it was a longshot to begin with.  Is there any other candidate in the coaching cupboard as attractive as our poll respondents think Todd McLellan is?  Since Ken Hitchcock is still "reflecting" (probably on the Sharks job offer) and Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle are our stumping for McLellan, it doesn't seem so.
