Game Thread: Senators vs Oilers - Hockey Day Matinee

A big hello to the wonderful readers out there in Chancellor!

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

Something is going on today in Canada, but I can't recall just what that is...hm. I'll circle back if I think of it. Today, while Canada celebrates it's favorite pastime and salutes wonderful small towns and feisty teams throughout the country, the NHL foists punishment upon the country by way of an Oilers - Senators matinee. These are two teams in need of an overhaul and soon.

How To Tune In

CBC at 12:00 Expect a significant amount of vignettes and reports from odd places.

What To Watch With The Oilers

Benoit Pouliot might be back in the lineup, which will go a long way in saving the slumping left side. Anton Lander has been on a roll lately which, of course, is prompting discussion about trading Boyd Gordon. Oscar Klefbom is playing like Martin Marincin did last year before he was Dallased. Or Craiged.

What To Watch With The Sens

Ottawa is bad everywhere except in goal, but there's especially bad on special teams, ranking in the bottom third of the league on the power play and penalty kill. The Oilers must take advantage of power play opportunities when they get them.

Final Thought

Darnell Nurse has the Soo Greyhounds in first place in the West Division in the OHL. It could be the only time he's in first place in his 20s.
